Man what a blast. Still recovering from holidays and have only just found a gem of a souvenir. We went down to KL Central Market near Petaling St (Chinatown). The market is pretty crap except we found a store OKR Combination selling some awesome punk and metal shirts. After drooling over the amazing Black Sabbath and Ramones T shirts for ages, I struck up a pretty good conversation with Asnawy, the owner. He really loved that I dug his shirts and gave us a copy of his CD. That CD is the Revengers – Legends of Rock and Roll. Lo and behold, it’s fucking amazing!

The Avengers have some heavy 80s influences, particularly Judas Priest a bit of Motley Crue (the good early stuff). Better still their singer Ayid can whail out the high notes just like Sebastian Bach and Rob Halford. Like Aussie boys Bogan Nation, they wear their colours on their sleeve. But make no mistake, these guys are a kick arse, denim clad, 80s rock revival – and god bless them for it.

The band don’t just sound like Judas Priest either. They’re tight, original and have a good look going. ALl the things that mattered in the old school days. Judging by the photos on the liner notes in their CD, they get a reasonable following in KL too.

So if you find yourself in KL, forget buying rip off Nikes on Petaling St. Get your arse down to Asnawy’s store and tell him how hard his band rocks! Honestly, there’s nothing better than finding a metal band that can really play in KL. Proof the world does truly rock and that Asia isn’t all sappy pop ballads. Thanks again for the CD dude. Best souvenir ever.

Check out The Revengers on Myspace.

If you want to check out the OKR Combination store, you won’t be disappointed. The address is:

K 12 Central Market, Jalan Hong Kasuni
50050 Kuala Lumpur
